Agenda Item Summary:
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2021 authorized the United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) to offer rebates to assist school districts with replacing existing school buses with clean and zero-emission models. ACPS would like to submit an application to the EPA to assist with the purchase of two electric school buses to replace two existing diesel buses. ACPS will partner with our current school bus vendor, Sonny Merryman, to submit the application on our behalf. Any applications submitted must be approved by the School Board.
To confirm the awareness of the intent to apply for the EPA Clean School Bus Rebates Program, the application requires signature from the School Board Chair. |

Background:
In 2022, ACPS was awarded grant funding from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to assist with the purchase of ten (10) electric school buses to replace ten (10) equivalent diesel buses. ACPS took delivery of the electric school buses from our current vendor, Sonny Merryman, between the months of January and August 2023. ACPS would like to purchase two (2) electric school buses to replace equivalent diesel buses that have reached their end-of-life. To reduce the financial impact of the purchase of these buses, ACPS would like to follow past practices of using government funding to apply for the EPA Clean School Bus Rebates Program. |
