Agenda Item Summary:
The Alexandria City School Board is beginning the process of redistricting with the goal of implementing new school boundaries. The Chair recommends the following Board Members for appointment to an ad hoc Redistricting Committee:

● Kelly Carmichael Booz
● Jacinta Greene
● Christopher Harris
● Tammy Ignacio

The ad hoc Redistricting Committee will support the redistricting effort approved by the School Board on June 15, 2023.

Background:
Alexandria City Public Schools is committed to enabling students to attend their boundary school with equitable access to instructional programs and services. The redistribution of students to schools based on established boundaries is critical to achieving this goal.

The last redistricting effort was implemented in September 2018. Policy JCE requires the School Board to conduct a boundary analysis every five years and/or when new schools, facilities, or programs are added that affect student assignment and capacity.

On June 1, 2023 a boundary analysis was presented to the School Board. Based on this boundary analysis, the School Board determined that redistricting is warranted and voted on June 15, 2023 to begin the redistricting process in the 2023-2024 school year. The length of time for the redistricting effort will depend on the scope, community engagement, and implementation policies.
