Agenda Item Summary: Over the last month, the following has been completed regarding the proposed weapons abatement pilot program:
• Weapons Screening Engagement Survey: The survey opened on February 24, 2023 and closed on March 8, 2023. The survey yielded 4,374 responses from the following groups:
o Students: 1,181
o Staff: 609
o Family/Guardian of a Student: 2,295
o Community Member: 289
• Site Visits: The Chief of Facilities and Operations, the Office of Safety and Security Services leadership and school administrators completed site visits with one vendor to determine the best location(s) to install equipment.
o The goal of these site visits was to have the logistical plan solidified in the case School Board approval is received to proceed with pilot program

Next Steps
• Formally request School Board approval for Weapons Abatement Pilot Program at March 16, 2023 School Board meeting
• If approval received, proceed with procuring equipment
• While awaiting arrival of equipment, train school administration, SSO’s and SROs on process
• Upon arrival of equipment, install at pilot locations (ACHS-KS, ACHS-MH, FCH and GW)
• Launch pilot program
Background: On Thursday, February 2, 2023, the Department of Facilities and Operations, Office of Safety and Security Services, shared a proposed plan to pilot a weapons abatement program within the division. This proposal was shared as a strategy to reduce actual/potential of weapons from entering ACPS facilities.
On Thursday, February 16, 2023, the Department of Facilities and Operations, Office of Safety and Security Services, shared an update related to the proposed weapons abatement pilot program.
Recommendation: The Interim Superintendent recommends that the School Board review survey results, the final update on the proposed weapons abatement pilot program and approve the weapons abatement pilot program for implementation.
